Maui, Hawaii

In Maui, sunset is one of my favorite times of the day to capture images. When everyone goes home, and after the sun has dropped below the horizon, this is when I like to stick around and capture the light show. Right before I captured this image, my assistant asked me if we were getting ready to go. I told him to be patient. We’re waiting for the sun to dip even farther below the horizon. When that happens, I said, these clouds are going to light up. Five minutes after he initially asked if we were leaving, he said that maybe it wasn’t going to happen this time around. I put my finger to my lips and whispered: shhhhh. A minute later, when the clouds started to turn pink, he looked at me and smiled. I smiled right back. I then went to work, making sure that my exposure was spot on. I dialed everything in and captured this image about 30 seconds later.
