Light of Moku’ae’ae
Kauai, Hawaii
Moku’ae’ae island is a special little place. The island (actually, an islet), to the left of the light, is about 5 square acres and is home to endangered Hawaiian monk seals and a host of seabirds that find sanctuary here. During the spring and summer, meanwhile, the red-tailed tropic bird (Koa’e ‘ula) uses the island as part of its mating ritual. In this image, I wanted to lead viewers to the light of Moku’ae’ae. It serves as a path to the beauty that resides on the little islet just off the eastern shore of Kauai.
